Chandigarh University emerges overall champion at KIUG 2023 Wrestling event

KOHIMA — Chandigarh University emerged as the overall champion in wrestling at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023 (Ashtalakshmi) held at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima on Sunday.

Chandigarh University won gold medals in both men’s and women’s team events.

In the women’s category, Lovely Professional University (LPU) won silver, while Guru Kashi University (GKU) clinched bronze. In the men’s event, GKU won silver and Rani Channamma University won bronze.

The Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, attended the closing ceremony as the special guest and presented the medals and trophies to the winners. Speaking to the media about the event, Ganesan stated that wrestling is part of the nation’s culture as a traditional sport and that the art is still evolving.

Prominent Naga-style wrestlers Khezhaselu-o Pienyü and Venuzo Dawhuo demonstrated Naga-style wrestling to athletes from outside the state on the occasion.
