SSU lift 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament
IMPHAL — The Southern Sporting Union (SSU) Singjamei emerged champions of the 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2022-23 after beating DM RAO Sekmai in the final at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Complex, Takyelpat in Imphal, on Friday.
L Roshan scored three goals to help SSU to beat DM RAO Sekmai 3-0 and walk away with a cash prize of INR 3 lakh, trophy, medals and certificates, while the runners-up received INR 2 lakh, trophy, medals and certificates.
On their way to the final, SSU defeated Imphal United Sekmai, Northeastern Sporting Union and Classic Football Academy, before beating Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM) Khabam 3-1 in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, DM RAO Sekmai defeated Young Physique Union Lalambung, LYLL Leimaram and Eastern Sporting Union Wangkhei, before winning a spot in the final by beating Youth Social Welfare Association (YSWA) Utlou 3-1 in the semi-final.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Additional Director General Binod Kumar Singh in-charge of CRPF in North East and several CRPF officials attended the prize distribution ceremony.
The CRPF has been organising this state-level tournament since 2010 in memory of Late Ng Manoranjan Singh, Asst Commandant, who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting Naxalites in Chhattisgarh in 2009.
