Nagaland witnesses 6% rise in number of vehicles
DIMAPUR — With a total number of 27,218 vehicles in 2023 as compared to 25,563 vehicles in 2022, Nagaland witnessed a rise of 6% in the number of vehicles. This was disclosed by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Since 2021, Nagaland witnessed a rising trend in vehicle registrations marked by a growth rate of 34.42% equivalent to 21,842 vehicles in 2021. The momentum continued in 2022 with a growth rate of 17.46%, representing 25,655 newly registered vehicles, the report stated.
From 2021, vehicle registration in Nagaland has shown an increasing trend with a growth rate of 34.42% (21,842 vehicles) in 2021 and 17.46% (25,655 vehicles) in 2022.
Out of 27,218 registered vehicles, heavy goods vehicles (HGV) constituted the highest count with a total of 9,019, followed by light motor vehicles amounting to 8,236 and two-wheelers (non-transport) making up to a total of 6,346.
The majority of the motor vehicles registered in Nagaland in 2023 were diesel-based engines with a total of 13,238 vehicles, followed by vehicles equipped with petrol-based engines numbering 12,484 and there are 1033 vehicles utilising petrol/ hybrid-base engines.
As of February 4, 2024, the total number of registered vehicles in Nagaland stands at 4,33,517, while among the regional and district transport offices, the regional transport office (RTO) at Kohima leads with the highest vehicle registrations totalling 1,78,851, followed closely is the district transport office (DTO) in Dimapur with 1,37,133 registered vehicles.
The regional transport office (RTO) in Mokokchung accounted for 53,294 registrations, while the district transport office (DTO) in Phek has 19,066 and district transport office (DTO) in Tuensang has 17,629 registered vehicles.
In the first two months of this year, from January to February 2024, Nagaland has witnessed the registration of a total of 3,029 vehicles, out of which 1,488 vehicles fell under the category of transport vehicles, while 1,541 vehicles belong to the non-transport category.
