Designer Rensali Tungoe talks to Eastern Mirror ‘Style Spot’ about what inspires her fashion collections and says that its time Nagaland develops a fashion/garment industry to create employment opportunities and give talented youths a chance to grow.
EASTERN MIRROR: Why did you decide to choose fashion designing as a career?
RENSALI TUNGOE: Designing is a passion for me. I chose my passion and eventually ended up becoming a fashion designer.
EASTERN MIRROR: Who and which things inspire you while creating your designs?
RENSALI TUNGOE: It’s a natural process. I get inspiration from the ordinary things that I see around. Sometimes the turbulent social phases, carnage, sexuality and gender inequality motivate me to let my clothes speak up.
EASTERN MIRROR: Do you follow trend or go with your own flow. How do you stay updated with fashion?
RENSALI TUNGOE: I don’t follow trends. I set my own. But for pret-a-porter (ready-to-wear) I take research of trends and interpret them for my clients. Media and my creativity help me to stay in fashion.
EASTERN MIRROR: Talk us through Rensali’s personal Style closet.
RENSALI TUNGOE: It’s mostly classic and fashionable.
EASTERN MIRROR: What is your biggest fashion turn off?
RENSALI TUNGOE: Fashion victims who try to give the look in contrast with their personality creating a fashion disaster. Our girls who dress minimum, crossing the zones as though walking down the streets of New York or our brothers sporting a version of “Naga Emo” in black painted nails, piercing and enormous tattoos. Fashion is always bold yet there should be discipline in our sense of dressing.
EASTERN MIRROR: What do you consider the important aspects of the fashion industry?
RENSALI TUNGOE: Fashion is an art applied in clothing and accessories which promotes creativity and employment. Nagas are known for their creative talents but seldom gets a vent. Its time Nagaland develops a fashion or garment industry to hold employment opportunity and give talent a chance to grow.
