President Murmu’s visit to Karbi Youth Festival cancelled
DIPHU — The much-awaited visit of President of India Droupadi Murmu to the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) at Taralangso on Wednesday had to be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.
Her helicopter could not land at the helipad in Taralangso and had to be diverted to Guwahati Airport, following which she returned to Delhi.
The news of the cancellation was confirmed only at 1:30 pm, leaving the organisers and crowds deeply dejected.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was present at the venue, expressed regret over the situation but assured that the president can be invited again to KYF in the future. He also announced an annual budget allocation of INR 3 crore for organising the festival.
We will make the Karbi Youth Festival one of the foremost ethnic and traditional festivals in the country and from next year Govt of Assam will offer a ₹3cr grant for the grand organisation of the festival.#KYFat50 pic.twitter.com/oLvyP0S9aU
