Naga village gates symbolise identity and security, says Nagaland minister Zhimomi
DIMAPUR — Naga village gates symbolise the identity of villagers and security, that it’s been guarded, said Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, on Monday.
Inaugurating Sunito village gate in Niuland district, the minister said that safety, security and identity have always been the priority of every Naga village and that village gates is a strong reaffirmation of this focus.
All Naga villages have the practice of erecting gates as a way of displaying their identity, as well as demarcation of the inhabitants, he said, adding that it is a culture for the Nagas.
Zhimomi also asked the village elders and leaders to carry forward the legacy left by the forefathers, remembering the hardships they faced in building the identity of the village.
