CHÜMOUKEDIMA — Newman Pastoral Centre under St. Joseph Parish Church in Chümoukedima held its catechetical certification programme on Sunday.

The programme was organised for catechists and lay leaders spanning from January 2023 to January 2024, which was conducted in two time slots. This year’s session was held from January 8 to the 14th.

Termed as ‘Splendour Project’ held in collaboration with the Christian Institute for Theological Engagement (CITE), the programme aims at providing academically validated certification training to faith educators appointed in various Catholic dioceses and parishes across the Asian region. The training programme was conducted on God redeeming our world (GROW).

The animated course, led by Rev. Dr. Sherman Kuek OFS, a permanent deacon of the Catholic Church, secular Franciscan, theologian, and teacher from Malaysia, covered a diverse range of topics including sacrament, second Vatican council documents, morality, teachings of the church, Old Testament, and New Testament.

Out of the 38 participants, 33 received certificates, who have dedicatedly attended the course for two consecutive years.

Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, bishop of Kohima, presented the certificates to the trainees after the Holy Eucharist at St. Joseph Parish Church, Chümoukedima, in the presence of parishioners.
