Patton inaugurates Yimpang platoon post

WOKHA — Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, Y Patton, inaugurated the Yimpang platoon post of 7th NAP battalion under Bhandari sub-division in Wokha district on Tuesday in the presence of MLA Achumbemo Kikon.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Patton informed that Yimpang platoon post also known as ‘Ethung post’ was operational until 1970 but abandoned due to certain factors. He informed that the restoration was aimed at not only to maintain territorial protection but also curb illegal activities, provide security and ensure law and order in the state border areas.

Emphasising the strategic location of the platoon post, Patton urged the concerned department to deploy personnel in full strength and ensured that individuals prone to indiscipline or engaging in substance abuse are not deployed.

Also speaking at the programme, Achumbemo Kikon, who is also the chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, expressed gratitude to Patton for his concern and support in reviving the platoon post. He appealed to the police officers, platoon personnel and the public to cooperate for smooth and efficient functioning.

Limasunep Jamir, IGP Nagaland, highlighted the importance of understanding the location for effective area domination, patrolling and border guarding.

Meanwhile, the villagers of Yimpang requested Patton to establish more police outposts for the welfare of the people. The public of the area also appealed to the visiting minister to construct all-weather road.

The dedicatory prayer was said by Rev. K Renphamo Odyuo, pastor of PBC, 7th NAP battalion.

Later, Patton inaugurated Zujum village under Bhandari sub-division.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Patton informed that the Assam-Nagaland border issue would be settled soon and urged the people to settle in the plain area. He encouraged creation of more villages in the plains with proper approvals and invited the community to approach him whenever his service is required.

He also urged the people to foster unity in order to bring more development in the area. He further called for wildlife preservation and announced awards to villages issuing hunting bans.

Achumbemo emphasised the importance of fostering a sense of belonging among the people and urged them to utilise their plain areas. He attributed negligence of the people for losing large portion of ancestral land.

He appreciated the presence of the deputy chief minister for attending the inaugural programme and sought his cooperation and support to cohesively work for the welfare of the people.

Rev. Thebemo Yanthan, senior pastor of Lotha AG Church, Sewak Road, Dimapur, said the dedicatory prayer.
