DIMAPUR — Marking 50 years of the creation of Phek district, jubilee marathons were held in various locations of the district including Phek, Meluri, and Chozuba towns.
At the Phek district headquarters, ADC Ruopfukuotuo Noudi flagged off the race at Chosaba junction. A total of 70 participants, inclusive of men and women took part in the mini-marathon covering a distance of 7 kilometres. The marathon ended at Clock tower, Phek town with Vekholhulu Dozo winning the women’s category.
Saluvelu Rhakho came second, Awale Thopi third, while the consolation prize winners were Lumlila Sangtam, Vemuzholu, Zomunulu Vese, Wetsole Venuh, and Setsulu Lohe.
Shekhoveto Hoshi won the men’s category while Surhoku Ringa and Keweko Kapfo came second and third respectively.
The consolation winners were Ikato Zhimo, Shekuzo Soho, Munguhu Dozo, Dzuzuhu Soho, and Vemuyo Khesoh, according to updates from the state DIPR.
On the occasion, EAC C Tsalimse Sangtam said that the mini-marathon was a significant event scheduled as part of the commemorative activities for the district’s golden jubilee celebration on Dec. 21.
Commandant of 5th NAP Phek, Yanrenthung Ngullie gave out the prizes and certificates to the winners.
Similarly, in Meluri, the mini-marathon which was sponsored by the department of youth resources and sports throughout the district, began at the Anapo stream and concluded at the Meluri local ground.
Advisor of New and Renewable Energy and NSDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) Z Nyusietho Nyuthe flagged off the race where a total of 35 men and 11 women participated.
In the men’s category, Lepenthe Yanphar secured the 1st position, followed by Jackson Yanphar and Ahuchu Thupitor in the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. Consolation prizes in the men’s category were awarded to Yutsolen Yanphar, M Vitsiitho, Maj. Sudhir Sharma, Miilongthvii Jangri, and Kuoziitho Ngouri.
For the women’s category, Ayinla Nyusou claimed the 1st position, with Zuchivi Nyusou and Asingla Thuer securing the 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. Consolation prizes in the women’s category were given to Rholozhe, Rhewiesa, Gracy Joshou, Ziivi Kajiry, and Ngarho Joshou.
ADC Meluri, Albert Ezung presented the winners with prizes.
Meanwhile, in Chozuba town, EAC of Chetheba Dr. Cthitü Nienu flagged off the mini-marathon at Zero Point, Chozuba town.
In the women’s category, Cekrotalü, Vetuhlü Lohe, and Veyelü Nienu claimed the first, second, and third positions, respectively. For the men, Beduto Ringa, Sapulhü Shijoh, and Mülüsayi Medeo secured the first, second, and third positions.
The Jubilee Marathon, which started and finished at Zero Point with a turnaround spot at Zaka Lake of Chozuba village, attracted the participation of government officials, sports enthusiasts, and security personnel. Imokokla, Additional Deputy Commissioner, had the honour of presenting the prizes during the prize distribution ceremony, the DIPR update stated.
The event garnered support from various sectors with Commandant and Assistant Commandant from the 111 Bn of BSF also participating alongside the competitors, it added.
In all the locations, cash prizes of INR 10,000, INR 7,000, and INR 5,000 were awarded to the first, second, and third positions in both categories, respectively. Consolation winners received INR 1,000 each along with certificates.
