DIMAPUR — Members of the Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victim Association (PDMGDVA) imposed a 24-hour road blockade in Phek district on December 11, protesting the delay in release of compensation for damaged infrastructure along two 2-lane road projects in Phek district.

While the Nagaland government remains non-committal to the demands raised by the association, the blockade passed off peacefully with volunteers manning various points along the two-lane Pfutsero- Phek Road and Zunheboto-Chakhabama road (under Phek district).

However, the 24-hour road blockade which was supposed to continue on Dec. 12 as well, has been called off for two days, after a request from the Chakhesang Public Organisation and Chakhesang Youth Front, the convener of the association Pushovoyi Nyekha told Eastern Mirror.

Nyekha said the association has resolved to suspend the 24-hour rock blockade for two days in honour of the CYF conference on Dec.12 and CPO marathon event on Dec 13.

The PDMGDVA also issued a press release later in the evening to announce the suspension and wished the two organisations success in their upcoming events.

“Pertaining to Third Phase of Agitation, the Association will notify later as and when felt necessary,” read the press release.

Earlier, given the blockade, the Zunheboto deputy commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali had issued an advisory for travellers, asking those travelling to and from Zunheboto district to take alternative routes: the Zunheboto -Mokokchung- Kohima – Dimapur road, Zunheboto -Coco -Wokha -Kohima -Dimapur road, Zunheboto -Saptiqa-Kandinyu-Kohima-Dimapur road, and the Zunheboto -Ghukiye -Khandinyu-Kohima-Dimapur.
