Observer urges eligible voters to register for e-roll
DIMAPUR — The commissioner and secretary and e-roll observer for Kohima district, K Libanthung Lotha, urged the political party representatives to educate and motivate eligible voters to register in the electoral roll in their respective areas.
Lotha stated this during a meeting on Thursday in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Kohima. The meeting was organised in context of the ongoing special summary revision of the photo electoral roll with reference to January 1, 2024, as the qualifying date, stated a DIPR report.
Lotha explained that the purpose of the meeting and underscored the significance of registering new voters in the electoral roll, who are 18 years of age as on January 1, 2024. He urged political party representatives to educate and raise awareness among the public regarding the revision activities. He also encouraged them to motivate eligible voters to register in the electoral roll in their respective areas.
Also speaking in the meeting, Kumar Ramnikant, deputy commissioner and district electoral officer of Kohima, emphasised the importance of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities. He stated that the activities are conducted to educate electors on the procedures related to registering their names in the electoral roll, making corrections and updating existing details.
The DC requested the active participation and cooperation of political parties in those activities. He also encouraged them to report any difficulties or problems faced by electors during the registration process to ensure a smooth exercise.
Having observed that some political parties are yet to appoint their booth level agents (BLA) for the polling stations, the observer informed that BLA from all recognised political parties should be appointed and stationed in each polling station within the district.
Report stated that representatives of political parties have expressed their grievances and suggestions related to the registration of new electors.
The meeting was chaired by assistant election officer (AEO) of Kohima, Olivi Thurr. AEROs and representatives from recognised political parties including NDPP, NPF, and INC attended the meeting.
