DIMAPUR — The 2nd All India Kung Fu Federation Cup 2023, cum National All Martial Arts and Title Belt Open Championship, kicked off in Dimapur on Tuesday. It is being organised by the Nagaland Kung-Fu Sports Association at the DDSC Stadium.

The three-day event will conclude on November 2, with DC Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, attending as the special guest on November 1, and ADC Mhalo Humtsoe attending the final day.

Ikato Y Kiho, president of the Nagaland Kung-Fu Sports Association, made the announcement on Tuesday at a press conference at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur. Kiho also stated that they were anticipating participants from approximately 15 states, but due to scheduling conflicts with exams and various other issues, participation has been affected.

The event will now see the participation of only seven states, namely Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal, Manipur, Tripura, Maharashtra, and Orissa. They were also anticipating around 130 athletes to compete in the event.

The association sought financial assistance from the government, but they were turned down because Kung Fu sports are not affiliated with the Nagaland Olympic Association, and the government’s current focus is primarily on supporting Olympic-affiliated sports, with no funding available for non-Olympic-affiliated games, Kiho informed.

The president announced that the gold medalist in the All India Kung Fu Federation Cup 2023 competition will receive INR 7,000, while the silver medalist will receive INR 5,000.

The gold medalist in the Title Belt Open Championship will receive INR 15,000, the silver medalist will receive INR 10,000, and the bronze medalist will receive INR 5,000.

Kiho noted that the All India Kung Fu Federation provides logistical support for the event but does not provide financial assistance, and that the hosting states are responsible for covering the costs associated with organising such an event.

The entry fee for the event will be INR 50, and around 12 stalls have been designated for local entrepreneurs to set up food and beverage stalls within the stadium premises.
