Farmers in Wokha learn about medicinal plants
The farmers and others during the one-day awareness programme held at Tourist Lodge, Wokha town, on Tuesday.

WOKHA — A one-day awareness programme on ‘medicinal and aromatic plants’ was held at Tourist Lodge in Wokha town under the scheme Promotion of MSMEs in North Eastern Region and Sikkim.

It was organised in collaboration with the Nagaland Bio Resource Mission (NBRM), Kohima, and the district industries centre (DIC), Wokha, on Tuesday.

Around 40 farmers from Wokha district attended the one-day event, where they learned about medicinal plants and their applications, as well as various schemes funded by the central and state governments.

Limasunep Longchari, district agriculture officer, Wokha, was the special invitee during the event, and speaking on the occasion, he hoped that the programme would aid in broadening knowledge of available resources and strengthening farmers and growers in the district.

Taliwati Longchar, IEDS joint director MSME-DFO (development facilitation office), Dimapur, welcomed participants and briefed them on the programme. Short speeches were also delivered by Nzanthung Ezung, a Ph.D. student; Somipam Pielie, a NBRM team member; and Myinthungo Kikon, general manager at DIC Wokha.

Manebsangla Amer, team member, NBRM, gave an introduction to medical and aromatic plants during the technical session, while Longchar spoke about the promotion of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.

Ezung spoke about bioresources, entrepreneurship, and medicinal and aromatic plants, while Y Ayimla Esther Yim, a NRBM team member, discussed medicinal plants and their role in history, processing, and marketing. Ezung also briefed on the processing and value addition of spices and medicinal plants.
