Solar street lights installed in Kohima Science College campus
DIMAPUR — As part of Green Initiative effort to go Green, Kohima Science College (KSC) has installed 10 solar street lights, issued by the Department of New and Renewable Energy, in the college premises.
“With the need to have a safer, more comfortable, more convenient and sufficient movement of pedestrians especially students residing in the college campus, the installation of solar street lights was considered as a dire need,” the college in a press release stated.
The principal of the college, Dr. Temjenwabang, along with the vice principal and staff, visited the place of installation and appreciated the work carried out by the technicians and staff detailed by the Department of New and Renewable Energy. The Green initiative leader Shevito Theyo, assistant professor, also expressed gratitude to the department for installation of solar lights, which are “green alternative over traditional street lights.”
Theyo stated that the installation of solar street lights not only addresses the longstanding issue of inadequate street lighting in the college but also enhances safety, social activities and access to education and recreation for students in the college premises, particularly during the dark hours.
“These lights also serve the need of the public in general who experience sporadic electricity supply at the same time reducing carbon footprint,” it stated.
