DIMAPUR — The Angami Student’s Union Shillong (ASUS) held its 55th fresher’s day 2023 at Naga Community Hall, Nongrim Hill, Shillong, on September 9.

Vice president of BJP Nagaland, Kevidezo Peter Rutsa, the guest speaker of the event, in his address, exhorted the students that studying should be their foremost priority, as “time and tide waits for no man while age is not always on one’s side.”

He asked the student not to waste their time but rather to make “haste in studies.” “Studying is like a battle, the longer the fight goes on, the wearier the mind and body becomes,” Rutsa added.

Emphasising the importance of community, Rutsa urged the students to keep in touch with their community as it is essential to one’s growth and also inclusive of the learning process.

President of Angami Krotho, Shillong, Khriesaneisa Rutsa reminded the students that while they live and pursue their studies in Shillong, they need to show their gratitude as well as have good and cordial relations with the local people, to pave the way for the younger generations.

He also enlightened that in the 1920s, the Angamis started moving to Shillong to study and the ASUS was formed in 1968.

Rutsa said that it was the elders of the Angami community who built a good image and relationship with the Khasis. He went on to state that the Khasis still respect the Angamis and they do not hesitate to rent their houses to the Angamis.

Therefore, the krotho president urged the students to be good ambassadors of the Angamis as well as Nagas in general.  He further encouraged the students to keep in touch with their leaders for any problem.

On the occasion, Mhalelhoubei Keyho and Mhalevinuo Solo were crowned Mister and Miss Freshers, respectively.

Highlights of the celebration included performances from special guest artist Mengu Suokhrie; a speech on behalf of the freshers by Vikehenuo Kengurüse and special numbers by Neikie-ü Yashü, Imkikumzuk Imsong and Thejakielie Levi, respectively.

Vice president ASUS delivered the welcome address and a vote of thanks was proposed by Peteneiu Talie, assistant general secretary, ASUS.
