Kiphire tops in JJM household tap water connections

DIMAPUR — The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), on September 5, reached the milestone of providing tap water connections to 13 crore rural households, increasing its rural tap connection coverage from three crore households in just four years.

This was informed by the Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a press statement.

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner in the progress chart, having successfully installed over 61 lakh functional household tap connections since January 2023.

Six states—Goa, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh—as well as three union territories—Puducherry, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands—have reported 100% coverage. Bihar has a coverage rate of 96.39%, while Mizoram is at 92.12%, and they are also on track to reach saturation soon.

According to Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal data, Nagaland has a total of 3,69,204 households, with 2,87,477 households (77.86%) successfully connected to tap water supply as of September 10, 2023.

Kiphire has the highest percentage of district-wise household tap water connections, with 91.98% of households. It was followed by Tseminyu (85.50%), Zunheboto (84.68%), Wokha (82.36%), Peren (82.13%), Shamator (81.54%), Noklak (81.54%), Longleng (80.33%), Phek (78.19%), Chümoukedima (74.89%), Niuland (73.83%), Dimapur (73.11%), Mokokchung (71.88%), Tuensang (71.25%), and Kohima (69.24%).

Mon leads the way in terms of total households with tap water connections, with 44,002 households, followed by Zunheboto with 28,242 households, Mokokchung with 27,653 households, and Dimapur with 27,090 households.
