DIMAPUR — The Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) on Wednesday observed the 63rd Pochury Black Day at Freedom Park, Matikhrü, Phek.

Speaking at the event, Kenneth, executive member of the Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights, urged the gathering to pass down the unique history from generation to generation.

According to a press note, he talked about the plebiscite of 1950 for self-determination and mentioned that the supreme sacrifices made by the villagers of Matikhrü have to be acknowledged by every Naga.

Heiko Kent, secretary of finance, on behalf of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), conveyed the solidarity message in which he said that the NSF stands in solemn remembrance of all the costly sacrifices made in the odyssey of the Naga struggle for self-determination.

“In remembering September 6, 1960, we are filled with deep reverence as we offer our humble homage to the visionary leaders and the heroes of the past, who have suffered and laid down their lives at the hands of the Indian Armed Forces and whose sacrifices and unwavering determination have bestowed upon us the legacy of a sovereign Naga nation,” he said.

Speaking on the significance of the day, Müphatho Nyuthe, president of PSU, recalled the horrific incidents of the 1960s, urged all the Naga freedom fighters to acknowledge the supreme sacrifices made by the Pochury people, and called upon every Naga political group to come as one as they have one common aspiration and goal.

He mentioned that this is a proud moment for the Pochury since they have also faced the brunt of the aggressors for the cause of the Naga nation.

The programme was chaired by Tsiarhotho Thsangkhure, president of MKSU, and the invocation prayer was said by M Tosietho, head deacon of Matikhrü Baptist Church.

Kuorho Pojar, head GB, Matikhrü, delivered the welcome address, and the Matikhrü Women Society performed a folk tune. Muzupfe Katiry proposed the vote of thanks, and the programme concluded with a benediction from Rhüthosie Pojar, deacon of Matikhrü Baptist Church, and the laying of wreaths.
