People should be consulted before introducing Nagaland Municipal Act in Assembly, say Mokokchung civil bodies

DIMAPUR — The Ao Senden, All Ward Union Mokokchung Town and the Landowners’ Board Mokokchung Town (Ungma, Mokokchung and Khensa village councils) passed a three-point resolution in connection with the Nagaland Municipal Act at a joint meeting held on Wednesday at the Ao Senden Office.

The house unanimously resolved to support the stance taken in regard to the Supreme Court hearing on the issue of the Nagaland Municipal Act, read a notification issued by Ao Senden.

The Naga people should be consulted before the proposed new Nagaland Municipal Act framed by the state government’s panel is introduced in the Assembly, it said, adding that Article 371A must not be compromised in the process.

It went on to say that the report of Ao Senden accepting the 33% reservation for women in the ULB during the state government’s consultative meeting held earlier this month, is unfounded and regrettable.
