DIMAPUR — Teachers’ Day was celebrated across Nagaland to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the country’s former President, scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna awardee.
Tuensang
The Department of School Education, Tuensang, organised a Teacher’s Day celebration at the town hall, Tuensang, with the district Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa as the special guest.
In her address, the DC expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the teachers for their unwavering dedication and hard work in shaping the future of students. She emphasised the pivotal role that teachers play as the backbone of society, nurturing students from their early years and instilling discipline and good behaviour, considering students spend a significant portion of their time at school.
Rutsa also commended the teachers posted in villages for their assistance to the district administration and their valuable support in documentation processes within government offices, a DIPR report stated.
She further encouraged the teachers to be role models for their students by exemplifying good behaviour. As part of the event, some teachers were also conferred with district awards.
Wokha
The District Education Office in Wokha organised a Teachers’ Day celebration at the VDB Hall, Wokha, with SDO Tsidi as the special guest.
The SDO, in his address, highlighted the significance of Teacher’s Day as an occasion to recognise and appreciate the pivotal role of teachers in society. He also said that this day is a tribute to educators who have consistently guided and inspired students on their path to becoming well-rounded and knowledgeable individuals.
Despite the numerous challenges they face, teachers have been instrumental in shaping the future of their students, Tsidi said. On the occasion, four teachers ((two each from private and government schools) were honoured for their outstanding services.
Phek
Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Phek observed Teacher’s Day at the school auditorium. The theme of the celebration was ‘The transformation of education begins with teachers,’ which underscored the pivotal role of teachers in shaping the future of students. The event commenced with a speech by the vice principal of GHSS, Phek, Kote-u Sekhamo. Mutunuzu Chizo extended Teachers’ Day greetings and shared words of appreciation for the dedicated teaching staff. GHSS students presented a special song.
Zunheboto
The Teachers’ Day celebration was held at Zunheboto town hall, with the district Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali, as a special guest. The special guest, in his address, underscored the invaluable role that teachers play in the lives of students, a DIPR report stated.
The DC said that educators not only impart textbook knowledge but also teach students important life values, communication skills and discipline, both within the classroom and at home.
Mali advised teachers to be present at their designated places of work to earn respect and urged them to perform their duties with dedication. He also requested the teachers to eliminate the practice of proxy teaching to ensure the delivery of quality education to students.
Further, the DC stressed the importance of teachers staying updated with modern educational methods to keep pace with the competitive world.
Tseminyu
Tseminyu district organised a common Teachers’ Day celebration at town hall, Tseminyu, with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang as the special guest. The DC in his address said that teachers not only impart academic knowledge but also shape the lives of students in every way, and added that “teachers are the pillars of our success.”
The celebration also recognised the outstanding contributions of teachers in the district, with two teachers receiving district awards. The programme was chaired by WasenmoApon, Principal of BHSS Tseminyu.
Ahthibung
Government Higher Secondary School, Ahthibung town, under Peren district, celebrated Teacher’s Day with SDEO (Retd.), L Gangte as the special guest. The special guest shared a brief history about Dr. S Radhakrishnan, and also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the teachers for their contribution towards the student community. On the occasion, the teachers were felicitated by the students. Other highlights of the programme included the presentation of songs and dances by the students.
Meanwhile, Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Tening Students Union, Kohima College Kohima; Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Gorkhas of Chümoukedima, and BJP Minority Morcha Nagaland State, also organised Teachers’ Day celebration programmes.
