DIMAPUR — A one-month summer internship programme for law students organised by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) concluded on Thursday during a programme held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Kohima.

Addressing the law students, NSLSA member secretary, Victo Sema, advised them to work hard to build legal acumen so that they could successfully establish themselves in the field of law. He added that the profession, although respectable, requires a person to work the extra mile, stated an update from NSLSA.

Victo asserted that studying is an investment for the profession which is not only during the course of their studies but once they join the practice. He advised them not to be discouraged but to be coherent and consistent, ready to sacrifice and enjoy learning at the same time.

“The scope of law is very wide and one can also be self-employed, which is very lucrative if one takes the practice with heart. Other aspects of the job include judicial exams in government and other branches where only persons with legal background are eligible to apply,” he informed.

During the programme, retainer lawyer of Kohima DLSA, Sunjib Rana, also interacted with the law interns. The interns shared their experiences and certificates were also presented.

During the internship programme which began last month, law students were given an opportunity to directly observe proceeding in courts at the high court and subordinate courts in the districts and engaged in various activities organised by the district legal services authorities. The interns also visited and interacted with persons at district jails, old age homes, and children’s homes among others.
