State government has not taken any tangible steps to resolve Naga issue — Nienu

 Leader of the NPF Legislature Party Kuzholuzo Nienu on Monday alleged that the present state government has not taken any tangible steps towards resolving the Naga political issue.

KOHIMA —  Leader of the NPF Legislature Party Kuzholuzo Nienu on Monday alleged that the present state government has not taken any tangible steps towards resolving the Naga political issue.

“I regret to state that no substantial steps have been taken so far,” Nienu said during an interaction with Eastern Mirror, on the occasion of 77th Naga Independence Day.

The NPF leader however informed that the state chief minister has given assurances on the formation of a joint forum to pursue the Naga political issue, likely to be set up in the later part of this year.

Nienu reiterated the NPF party’s commitment to champion the cause of the sovereignty of the Nagas.

“Our dedication to achieving sovereignty remains resolute; no force can deter our aspiration for self-determination,” he asserted.

He also stressed the need for Nagas to disengage from the Indian Union and reclaim what rightfully belongs to them.

Asserting that sovereignty is their (Nagas) inherent right, he emphasised that their demand should focus solely on sovereignty.

Nienu also underscored economic independence as a crucial step towards Nagas realising their political aspiration.

‘If this is attained, we will no longer depend on the Government of India,’ he claimed.

“Once we start tapping (our natural resources), we will become economically independent. Once we become economically independent, we don’t need them (GoI) anymore,” he added.

The regional leader also expressed scepticism over the seriousness of the Government of India in resolving the protracted Naga political issue.

“Their seriousness is questionable, as they seem more inclined toward creating divisions among the Nagas,” he remarked.

He further affirmed that the NPF’s commitment to bolstering the present “all-party government” is to promote peace, harmony and a resolution of the Naga political issue.

“We are in the government because of Naga political issue,” he added.
