Venuzo Dawhuo off to US for 12th Biennial Convention of CYONA

DIMAPUR— The Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) on Wednesday organised a send off ceremony for popular wrestler Venuzo Dawhuo and his manager and coach Vekhozo, who were leaving for Bloomington, Indianapolis, USA, to take part at the 12th Biennial Convention of Chin Youth Organisation of North America (CYONA).

They were supposed to leave for the US from New Delhi on June 29.

CWA General Secretary, Kuzhovesa Soho, in an update, informed that the convention is a celebration of cultural exchange through wrestling, which is slated to be held from June 30 to July 3.

Venuzo, who is the reigning champion of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), will be competing with the best Chin wrestlers during the convention, which is part of festival for the Chin people in USA, according to an update received here today. He will take part in the sporting event under the aegis of the CWA and on the invitation of CYONA.

He is also expected to take on the likes of Rung Lian Ceu, Biak, etc. in challengers wrestling bouts on July 8 before returning home on July 12.

Rung Lian Ceu conceded defeat to Venuzo Dawhuo in semi final bout of Open Naga Wrestling Championship at Kohima in 2019, but won third position.

Chin people are said to be hard core fans of Venuzo and they are looking forward to watch him live in their home city, the update informed.

Coach Vekhozo expressed hope that the exposure would infuse interest in the upcoming wrestlers.

The send off ceremony was attended by CWA officials, representatives from Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA), Phek Area Wrestling Association (PAWA), Chakhesang NWA Officials, relatives and well-wishers of the two.

The CWA appealed to all wrestling lovers and the Nagas to uphold them in their prayers.

CM extends wishes

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had on Tuesday conveyed wishes to the wrestler.

“Met Mr. Venuzo Dawhuo, reigning Champion of the Nagaland Wrestling Association. He will be competing at Indianapolis, USA. I extend my good wishes and hope he continues with his winning streak. May this initiative open doors for other wrestlers as well,” he tweeted.
