NFR undertakes maintenance works to enhance safety

The North Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken major maintenance and improvement works to enhance safety in train operations.

Several track maintenance works including renewal of railway track, sleeper and turnout; deep screening of track, insertion of ballast, tamping of track and points and crossing, have been carried out in NFR during April to December, 2022, NFR in an update stated.

NFR is executing track renewal works to improve the track structure and ensure safety of train running.

“Rail renewal of 334.05 km, sleeper renewal of 126.43 km and turnout renewal of 189.75 sets have been done during April to December, 2022. During this period, 35 thick web switch have been installed in railway tracks to ensure jerk-free and comfortable travel experience for passengers.” NFR stated.

In order to achieve good quality works, NFR is also executing maintenance works by using track machines. 5821.20 km of railway track and 2671 points and crossing has been tamped during April – December, 2022, to pack the ballast under railway track to ensure making railway track more durable and level.

To ensure clean ballast cushion under railway track, 224.62 km of plain track and 139 turnouts have been deep screened during April to December, 2022.

The deep screening of railway track restores the elasticity of the ballast bed, resulting in improved running quality of track. A total of 4.78 lakh cum ballast has been inserted in track and 159 bridges have also been rehabilitated during the period, it informed.

NFR further informed that railway tracks are maintained and inspected on regular intervals to ensure that every section is fit for train operations so that passengers can get better riding experience.
