Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland celebrated the country’s 74th Republic Day in all the districts and sub-divisional headquarters on Thursday. Educational institutions also joined in the celebration.
Mokokchung: In Mokokchung, the Republic Day celebration was held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, where the advisor of Food and Civil Supplies and LM&CP, Pukhayi Sumi, unfurled the national flag.
The advisor also inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by different departments. Altogether, nine parade contingents took part in the march past. The entertainment extravaganza included presentation of cultural dances by cultural club from Khensa village and Naga Wadir Club from Ungma.
Wokha: The Republic Day celebration in Wokha was at Wokha local ground with the minister of Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, as the special guest. Highlights of the programme included presentation of folk songs by the Wokha Town Lakhuti Women Cultural troupe and traditional rice pounding by Longsa Women Cultural troupe.
Feeding of jail inmates was carried out by DLSA and at Mhondamo Memorial District Hospital by DCCI. Similar programme was carried out at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital by SBI and at 40th Assam Rifles Hospital by ANTA Wokha unit.
Tuensang: The celebration was held at the Parade Ground, Tuensang, with the deputy speaker of NLA, Yangseo, as special guest, who unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingent.
Cultural items were presented by Changen Cultural Club and Sangli Cultural Troupe.
Phek: Advisor of Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, attended the Republic Day celebration in Phek town. Zhaleo inspected the parade contingents and also inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by Agriculture and allied departments.
Folk dances and songs were presented by the cultural troupe from Jericho II Youth and Jericho II Women Cultural Troupe.
Peren: Minister of Housing and Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum, unfurled the national flag at the new district headquarters in Peren.
Four government employees, who have been selected for the district awards in recognition of their distinguished services, were felicitated by the special guest on the occasion. Meanwhile, the event was also successfully celebrated at ADC office in Jalukie, where TL Kiusumong Tikhir, ADC of Jalukie, unfurled the tri-colour.
Mon: Minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, was the special guest of the Republic Day celebration in Mon town. He unfurled the national flag and inspected the parade contingents.
The event also witnessed a song presentation by Aman N Konyak and cultural dance by Mon Vale College Cultural Troupe. The event concluded with prize distribution and display of band followed by ‘Beating of Retreat Ceremony’ by the 6th NAP Pipe Band.
Kiphire: MLA Yitachu unfurled the tri-colour at the Republic Day celebration held at Kiphire public ground. Cultural presentations were performed by Kisetong village cultural troupe and Nilejo cultural troupe of Sitimi village.
Volleyball exhibition matches were also played between Young Defender Club and Elite Frontier Club and Amity Club and Y’nite Sporting Club.
Longleng: Advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, attended the Republic Day celebration held at Longleng the public ground. He unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute from six parade contingents.
Modern folk fusion by Aman and friends, inauguration of exhibition stalls and a volleyball exhibition match were the highlights of the day-long event.
Chümoukedima: Minister of Planning and Coordination, Parliamentary Affairs and Land Revenue, Neiba Kronu, unfurled the national flag and inspected the parade contingents at public ground in Chümoukedima on the occasion the Republic Day celebration.
Chekiye cultural troupe performed folk dance and ended with a retreat by the 1st NAP Battalion.
Noklak: Advisor of Village Guards and Information and Public Relations, S Keoshu, unfurled the tri-colour and took the Rashtriya salute from five parade contingents at public ground in Noklak. The advisor also inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by the Agri-allied departments, Horticulture department, Fisher and Aquatic Resources department and Noklak District Handloom and Handicrafts Council.
Tsemiynu: The Republic Day celebration in Tseminyu was held at Rengma Sports Association ground with the minister of Agriculture and Cooperation, G Kaito, as the special guest. The highlights of the programme included folk dance by Kandinu cultural troupe and a folk song by GBs Union, Tseminyu.
The minister also inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by various departments.
Shamator: Advisor of Prison, Printing, and Stationery, H Haiying, unfurled the national Flag, inspected the parade contingents and read out the Republic Day speech at Shamator town on the occasion of Republic Day celebration.
The highlights of the celebration included presentation of patriotic song by the students of St. Xavier School, Shamator; Taekwondo demonstration by the students of Taekwondo Association, Shamator; and cultural exhibition by Thopun cultural troupe.
Niuland: Minister of Geology and Mining, Soil and Water Conservation, V Kashiho Sangtam, unfurled the tri-colour and took the Rashtriya salute at Niuland town on the occasion of Republic Day celebration.
JNV Nihokhu and Kuhoxu village children ministry performed special presentations, while folk song and folk dance were presented by Education Colony (women) of Niuland town and P Vizheto village respectively.
Zunheboto: Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, attended the Republic Day celebration at Zunheboto local ground as the special guest. He unfurled the national flag and inspected the parade contingent.
Longkumer also inaugurated the exhibition-cum-sale stalls organised by ATMA Zunheboto. To mark the International Year of Millets 2023, ATMA Zunheboto exhibited various varieties of millets from the district. Besides, various agricultural tools were displayed and demonstration on oyster mushroom production was briefed by ATMA staff.
The exhibition witnessed enthusiastic participation from Azakumla SHG of Asukhomi Village, Nikivipu SHG of Zunheboto town and Raw Honey group of Yehemi village. Six government departments including Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Agriculture, Land Resources, Soil and Water Conservation and ATMA Zunheboto from Agri. & Allied participated in the exhibition.
PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated the 74th Republic Day at the school premises, where the tri-colour was hoisted by the school’s principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee.
In his speech, Bhattacharjee greeted the teaching, non-teaching staff and students and impressed upon to set a bench mark for building one’s career. He further advised the student to be prepared mentally and physically for attaining one’s goal in life.
On the occasion, group song was presented by the teachers and a short speech was delivered by the school’s vice principal, AK Roy.
SSP: Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) celebrated Republic Day by honouring the patriots and martyrs, who have made the supreme sacrifices.
The school’s principal and chief guest, Capt. RK Yadav, unfurled the tri-colour and reviewed the different parade contingents. He paid tributes to the visionaries and martyrs of the country, who made India proud.
On the occasion, cadet Yirenthung and cadet Divyanshu Pandey delivered speeches in English and Hindi respectively. The passing out parade of Class XII and drill competitions were held wherein Tizu House secured the first position in senior category and Patkai House bagged the first position in junior category.
Republic Day was also celebrated in various sub-divisions including Pughoboto, Longkhim, Thonoknyu, Jakhama, Aghunato, Wakching, Satakha, Chozuba, Changtongya, Pfutsero, Tizit, Medziphema, Pungro, Meluri, Seyochung, Chen, Aboi and Chiephobozou.
