NCD screening for healthcare workers held in Mokokchung

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): A two-day training on screening of non communicable diseases (NCD) for senior medical officers (SMO), medical officers (MO), community health officers (CHO) and nurses was conducted in the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Mokokchung on September 20 and 21.

An update from the CMO’s office stated that the two-day training on NCD screening was conducted under the national programme for prevention and control of cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and stroke.

Delivering the welcome address, the CMO of Mokokchung, Dr. Limatula Aier, urged upon the healthcare workers to learn from the training and deliver quality service at their respective centres.

In a powerpoint presentation, Dr. Sentirenla, MO (Dental) at IMDH, explained on the causes of oral cancer, different methods to detect lumps, lesions or sores, seven steps of month self examination, when to do biopsy, types of biopsy and different treatment like counseling, behavioral interventions, pharmacotherapy, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

She stated that early detection of oral cancer plays a vital role on patients which could increase survival chances.

Dr. Alemba R Jamir, SMO (Medicine) at IMDH, spoke on the management of diabetes and its complications. He has advocated measures to build capacity at various levels of healthcare for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of common NCD.

Dr. Subongmeren, MD (ONG) at IMDH, presented about breast cancer screening, cervix cancer screening and VIA procedure, benefits and limitations. He stated that breast cancer is a treatable disease and chances of survival are higher if detected in time. According to him, breast cancer ranked number one among Indian females wherein an Indian women are diagnosed with breast cancer every minute.

Report stated that the trainees were taught on disease burden and trend, anatomy and physiology of breast, breast cancer risk factors, major and intermediate risk factors, breast cancer, breast self examination, cervix cancer screening, barriers to cervical cancer screening, how to perform VIA procedures.
