Our Correspondent
Kohima, Aug. 4 (EMN): The Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) on Thursday closed Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Phek indefinitely following the state government’s failure to fulfill its demand to fill the vacant posts in the school.
An update from the PTYS President, Neizote Venuh, stated that during a short gathering, many public leaders expressed their solidarity and grievances over the ‘insincere attitude’ of the government towards the school.
It alleged that 16 teaching staff had transferred, retired or died, and the government had failed to send relievers. It added that the post for Geography was not extended and the Botany teacher was absent from duty for many years. Another two teachers were going to be transferred out, totalling up to 20 teachers, it added.
‘The vacancies persisted for long and (PTYS) had faith in the government to send the relievers but (govt.) had terribly failed. It is very difficult to comprehend how the students appear their exams without the teachers’, it stated.
While expressing gratitude to the parents, public and well wishers who participated in the rally, PTYS stated that the protest would go on and intensify further; and therefore requested every section of society to extend cooperation even in the days to come.
