Dimapur, Aug. 4 (EMN): The All Nagaland Government Primary Teachers’ Association (ANGPTA) has appreciated the decision of the Department of School Education (DoSE) to conduct the limited departmental examinations (LDE) through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) by implementing Rule 15 of The Nagaland School Education Service Rules, 2017.

The statement comes just days after the All Nagaland Graduate Teachers’ Forum (ANGTF) had requested DoSE to keep its proposed LDE in abeyance till the ongoing revision of Department Service Rules is completed.

ANGPTA, in a statement on Thursday, said that the examination was a long-awaited opportunity for many teachers, who once selected, would strengthen the administrative set-up of the department.

It stated that the Departmental Service Rules should be ‘honoured and not sacrificed at the whims and fancies of anybody’.

“It is rather unfortunate that some section of the teachers chose to oppose this decision when the department is trying its best to restore the smooth functioning of the school administration,” the statement read.

ANGPTA said it has never equated its scale of pay with any other cadre, but this has not deterred the primary teachers from teaching higher classes in many schools, especially in rural areas.

“LDE is open to all eligible teachers, irrespective of cadres and its purpose is to select the most capable persons to strengthen the department, as such, it has nothing to do with the nature of appointment,” it read.

The association further stated that Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) is a comprehensive two-year professional teachers’ course that “cannot be completed without burning the midnight lamp therefore, it cannot be termed as ‘soft-earned’ professional course”.

ANGPTA also requested the department to clarify on the eligibility criteria for filling up the post of AHM/JEO under School Education to avoid any confusion in the future.
