Mokokchung, Aug.2 (EMN): The Longtrok Senden of Ungma, in collaboration with North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, held its 37th edition of “Sobaliba Sayu,” (roughly translated cultural display) competition at the Babu Tzübo Amphitheater in Ungma village on August 1.

Minister of PWD Housing and Mechanical, Tongpang Ozükum, the chief guest of the event in his address, lauded the Longtrok Senden for their notable efforts to promote the cultural heritage of the community and preserving the sacred traditions and customs of their forefathers.

On the various meetings and resolutions passed by the Parliamentary Committee on Naga political issue, Ozükum stated the July 16 resolution was one of the best resolutions passed by the committee as facilitators.

He said the resolution appealed to the negotiating parties to refer to the competencies reflected in the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) to arrive at a mutually acceptable agreement that is honourable, acceptable and inclusive.

Tatar of Ungma village, Rarenpenba, stated that the aim of the competition was to help preserve Ao culture and tradition and to pass them to the future generations. He added that the target groups are those under 18 years.

Altogether, nine clubs from Ungma village participated in the annual cultural folk dance competition where United Soyim Club emerged as the champion of the event, while Longtrok Senden Club bagged the runners-up position.

The winners and runners up were awarded with certificates and cash awards. The competition was judged in four criteria – attire, tribal call, dance and song.
