Dimapur, July 29 (EMN): As part of its second phase clean election awareness campaign, the Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) conducted a two-day consultative meeting with the public leaders and church leaders of the Western Chakhesang Hoho and Chakhesang Hoho Kohima on July 28 and 29.

The consultative meeting with the Western Chakhesang Hoho was held at Western Chakhesang Baptist Church Council Mission Centre at 7th Mile Village in Chümoukedima on July 28 and with the Chakhesang Hoho Kohima at the Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kitsubozou, on July 29, stated an update from CCEM.

In both the meetings, CCEM chairman, Rev. Vezopa Rhakho, reiterated that the movement is the social responsibility of the church and neither against political parties nor any leaders. As a Christian majority state, he called upon the people to live up to their faith in Christ.

President of the Chakhesang Hoho Kohima, Theja Therieh, laid emphasis on the importance of conscious voting, which is the purest form of democracy. He pointed out that voting for cash has become “very convenient” and many people earn a lot of money during elections. He, however, stated that the right to choose should not be misused.

“We must go back to our roots and see where we are to be able to proceed. In the Naga society today, people are not clear about what is right and what is wrong and have been comfortable with the grey area for a long time. But as followers of Christ, one should be able to say wrong is wrong and right is right no matter what interpretation comes about,” Therieh said.

The consultative meetings were organised by the CCEM comprising of members from Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA), Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), and area council chairmen.

Participants of the two-day meeting included leaders of various civil society organisations, church workers, village leaders etc.
