Dimapur, July 20 (EMN): Boro-Kachari Catholic community celebrated the 6th foundation day of St. Dominic Savio at Naharbari, Dimapur, on July 17 under the banner of “Peace be with you, as the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”

Peace Channel in a press release stated that Caroline Leisan, coordinator of Peace Channel and woman president of Holy Cross Parish, exhorted on the importance of living in unity irrespective of different denominations and religion by doing away with factors that fuel conflicts such as ‘ism,’ prejudices, and stereotyping.

“The need to respect and accept each other irrespective of differences is the only means to attain peace within family, church and community at large,” she said.

The director of Peace Channel, Rev. Dr. Fr. CP Anto, has lauded the Boro-Kachari Catholic community leaders for sowing the seed of peace by bringing together individuals from different denominations to celebrate the event,” said in his address.

Fr. Anto also remarked that the community could be the upcoming model of ‘Beloved Community’ for peace (inspired by the concept of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. ‘Beloved Community’), a community where the people irrespective of tribes, region, religion, gender, status come together to solve any social issues, division and struggles experienced and observed in the community.

“Here, the value of non-violence is embraced and upheld; the character of compassion and understanding, inclusiveness, the value of Love, Humility, Honesty, Discipline, Generosity, Justice, and Sacrifice is cultivated,” he said.

To make the vision of “Beloved Community” a reality, Fr. Anto informed that Peace Channel through the formation of “People’s Forum for Peace (PFP)” aims to bring community to work individually and collectively to promote peace and harmony in their environment and strive towards universal peace, justice, equality and brotherhood.

It mentioned that Boro-Kachari Catholic Community is one of the PFPs formed in Dimapur under the initiative of Peace Channel. It added a drastic improvement was seen in many lives specifically improvement – in the relation among spouse, gradual drop in alcoholism, a steady increase in the number of church attendees, and it ultimately led to a more understanding among the community and since its formation.
