Dimapur, June 28 (EMN): A senior executive member of Supreme Court Bar Association and senior advocate, Ranji Thomas, today called upon the lawyers not only to practice law for personal gain but also do community service.

Interacting with the officials and members of Kohima Bar Association (KBA) at the courtroom, Thomas stressed that it should be the responsibility of bar to propagate among the lawyers not only to take up cases to earn money but also indulge in community service to contribute to the society, stated an update from KBA president, Khriedi Theünuo.

“We as lawyers are not there to earn money only but also contribute to the society,” said Thomas, who is also the former advocate general of Arunachal Pradesh.

He also suggested that KBA should open a separate cell within their office and keep a collection of the latest judgements of the Supreme Court for lawyers to hold discussions at least once a week for better understanding of the judgements.

Stating that democracy is at the lowest level as no political parties in the country are concerned for the public despite India being a democratic country, he called upon the lawyers to stand together to protect the true secularism of the country.

The senior advocate also assured KBA of his support relating to any case in the apex court and also to approach judges of the SC for conduct of workshops and seminars.

Thomas further appealed to the KBA to spread legal awareness among the general public.

Meanwhile, KBA president, Khriedi Theünuo, has welcomed the SC senior advocate and also sought his support in their future endeavours. It mentioned that the senior advocate was in Nagaland on an unofficial visit.
