Nagaland: Krishi Vigyan Kendra distributes farm equipment to farmers

Dimapur, June 20 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Nagaland University in Zunheboto conducted input distribution programme under the tribal community development project in Lotsu village under Sanis block and Renthan village under Bhandari block in Wokha district on June 17.

The programme in Lotsu village began with an invocation said by Rev. Zaremo Lotha, while the welcome address was delivered by R Thechamo Ovung, chairman of Lotsu village, and introductory speech by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, principal scientist and head of the project, who gave an insight of the project and its importance with respect to improving productivity of crops and animals.

An update from KVK stated that Dr. Rakesh has emphasized on selection of right crops, its importance in the present context, cluster approach, storage methodology and selection of right farm implements to reduce drudgery among farming communities.

The chief guest of the programme, Dr. Abemo, registrar of Nagaland University, spoke on the importance of such programmes and asked the farmers to adopt new technologies in order to increase productivity of crops and income. The registrar also congratulated the farmers from six nearby villages, who have done excellent jobs in the agricultural sector.

The farmers were provided with various farm implements developed by VKPAS at Almora in Uttarakhand. It stated that those equipment were easy to handle in hilly terrain and are light in weight. Farmers were also provided with storage bags and kits to prevent storage loss in paddy crops developed IRRI along with knapsack sprayer.

Later in the evening, input distribution programme was organised in Renthan village where the principal in-charge of the project gave an insight on the programme and importance of farm implements in improving productivity and reducing labour cost.

The village chairman, Tsemomo Humtsoe, thanked the team of KVK and Nagaland University for providing farm implements developed by VPKAS, Almora.
