Kohima, May 29 (EMN): Underlining the requisite quality of a teacher, Dr. Zavise Rume, professor at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), urged teachers to be role models in all aspects, make the class interactive and master their respective subjects.
Dr. Rume stated this during a one-day orientation on professionalism and empowerment of teachers held at VDB hall in Dzulha village under Phek district on May 28. The event was organised by ‘Pick a Book Nagaland’ on three themes namely ‘Search for your meaning,’ ‘Know your profession,’ ‘Know your powers.’
Speaking on the topics ‘Basic skills of teaching’ and ‘Professional code of ethics for teachers,’ Dr. Rume stated that teaching without love would be a waste, a press release from ‘Pick a Book Nagaland’ stated.
Another resource person and teacher, Khovelu Naroh, spoke on ‘Strategies of teaching language and role of teachers in language development.’ She maintained that all teachers should teach language and literacy stating that language cannot be separated from teaching any subject except Hindi or mother tongue in Nagaland.
While highlighting some effective teaching strategies, Naroh encouraged the teachers to blend the innovative methods or strategies which suit their students in order to bring out the best in them.
In his keynote address, Vezito Tetseo, founder of ‘Pick A Book Nagaland,’ stated that the objective of the orientation was to focus on ethics and principles of the teachers to be more committed towards their profession of teaching.
The co-founder of Pick a Book Nagaland, Veposelu Naroh, delivered the vote of thanks, while Khresasüh Keyho, pastor of CRC Dzülha, said the invocation and the event concluded with a benediction said by Dütsonyi Keyho, pastor of Dzülha Baptist Church.
