Manipur CM allocates portfolios to ministers

Imphal, March 27 (EMN): Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh allocated portfolios to his council of ministers, keeping the key home and  planning departments with him.

The chief minister will be in charge of the confidential and cabinet department, personnel and administrative reforms department, vigilance and anti-corruption department, information and technology department and any other departments not allocated, a notification by chief secretary, Dr. Rajesh Kumar said.

Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh will look after Power, Forest, Environment and Climate change, Agriculture and Science and Technology departments.

Yumnam Khemchand will be the minister for Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development department, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Information and Education department.

Govindas Konthoujam has been allocated the portfolio of the Public Works department and Youth Affairs and Sports department, while lone woman minister Nemcha Kipgen will helm the ministry of Textiles, Commerce and Industry department and Co-operation department.

Former forest minister Awangbow Newmai will take charge of the Water Resources department and Relief and Disaster Management department.

It may be mentioned that N Biren Singh along with the five ministers mentioned above were sworn-in during a colourful swearing-in-ceremony at the lawn of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on March 21 after Singh was elected as the leader of the legislature party of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the second term on March 20.

Six ministers are yet to be inducted.
