Kohima, July 31 (EMN): Massive landslides triggered by monsoon rains had blocked roads and disrupted movement of vehicles in Phek district on Friday night.
Confirming this to Eastern Mirror, the superintendent of police (SP) Phek, Vesupra Kezo, informed that landslides had taken place between Pfutsero-Khomi-Phek road and Pfutsero-Lanye road where two-lane road construction is in progress.
He informed that no casualties were reported. However, a pickup truck (Tata mobile) ferrying goods from Dimapur to Phek was stuck in the debris of mudslide near Khomi and was later retrieved.
Kezo also said that there were mudslides on Pfutsero-Lanye road too but were cleared for traffic during the day itself. Travellers plying to Phek via Pfutsero have been advised to commute through this route.
It added that clearance of debris between Pholami and Khomi is expected to be done by Sunday morning.
Further, the official asserted that machinery had been deployed at the site for clearance of the debris and blockades.
Meanwhile, the SP had advised the travellers and commuters not to take Phek-Khomi-Pfutsero road until clearance is done and further advised the travellers to be wary of rockslides, landslides and skids which may occur due to fresh cutting of the road.
The official had asked the people to take alternative routes in an advisory issued on Saturday morning.
