Mokokchung, June 9 (EMN): Nagaland’s Mokokchung district recorded second-highest spike of Covid-19 cases since the outbreak of pandemic last year, with 92 fresh infections reported on Wednesday.
The district recorded highest single-day spike of 164 Covid positive cases on June 5 this year.
A medical official informed that the 92 new cases were accumulative test results of June 6 and the 7th.
The official added that more than 100 samples that were collected on June 8 had been sent to BSL-2 lab in Tuensang and test results are expected to be reached by June 10. Testing for more than 60 samples collected on Wednesday will be done in Mokokchung as two TrueNat extractors have been repaired from Guwahati.
The reason for the surge in Covid cases in the district, he said, is because ‘we let our guards down with our near and loved ones and avoid Covid-19 appropriate behaviour’.
He added that aggressive contact tracing and public co-operation during the exercise might have provided ample time to detect the positive cases which may reflect in flattening the curve in the days to come.
