Twitch announces lower subscription prices for most countries
Dimapur, May 17 (EMN): Popular live streaming platform Twitch has announced that it is lowering the prices for subscriptions (including gift subs) globally to reflect the cost of living in “most countries”, starting with Turkey and Mexico on May 20th.
The standard subscription price for a long time was roughly $5 per month but Twitch has since realised that the subscription price could be expensive for most countries.
In a bid to make subscriptions more affordable to Twitch‘s global audience, price drops will start from May 20 in Mexico (48 Pesos per month, or about $2.40) and Turkey (9.90 TRY, about $1.20).
More price drops are expected to come for countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East sometime in the third quarter of 2021, according to Twitch’s blog.

Although streamers could see their revenue fall as a result of the price changes, Twitch will reportedly offer a “revenue adjustment incentive” to an affected streamer based on a calculated channel’s baseline revenue.
According to Twitch, “Twitch will cover 100% of baseline channel and Prime sub revenue (if needed) for three calendar months, including the month of the price change. After that, we will slowly decrease incentive payments by 25% every three months over the following 9 months, totalling a 12-month period of providing revenue adjustment incentives.”
The new changes in subscription prices come at a time when most platforms are trying new ways to help creators monetise their following. Twitter is experimenting with a new Tip Jar feature and Clubhouse has enabled direct payments for its users.
