Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, M Shayung Phom, inaugurated a coffee bar and also gave away coffee pulper machines to coffee farmers during a programme held at DPO’s office in Longleng town on May 7.
Speaking at the programme, DC congratulated the Land Resource department for coming up with a new coffee bar in the district. He also emphasised the current situation of Covid-19 and urged all individuals to strictly follow the SOPs guidelines given by the government, a DIPR report stated.
“The district administration, police and medical department are compelled to work for the smooth function of the district, but many villages show non co-operation with the government during the vaccination drive and only very few villagers got vaccinated,” he stated. He, therefore, encouraged all individuals, farmers to spread awareness within villages and community to avail the vaccine at earliest.
In his speech directed to the farmers, the DC stated that ignorance on the use of machines would result in lower production. He, therefore, urged the farmers to come forward and clear their doubts the department officials.
The district project officer of LRD, Kughalu Chichi, in his keynote address stated that Nagaland has advanced in growing coffee among other states in the northeast region. He urged the farmers to grow more and also educate their fellow farmers about the benefits of coffee plantation.
PBCA executive secretary, Tialemba, shared that scenario has changed due to Covid-19 pandemic. Expounding that we should not only be consumers, Tialemba encouraged the farming community especially the coffee planters to produce surplus and also export to other parts of the world.
Highlights of the programme included inauguration of coffee bar by the deputy commissioner and demonstration of coffee pulper machines by DPO. The Land Resources department, Longleng division, distributed a total of 25 coffee pulper machines to the beneficiary farmers.
