Wangkhao College organises seminar on career counselling

Dimapur, Feb. 14 (EMN): The Seminar Committee and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Wangkhao Government College in Mon organised a two-day state level seminar on career counselling on February 11 and 12, sponsored by the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

An update from the college stated that the college’s principal Dr. I Wati Imchen delivered the welcome address, while the inaugural speech was delivered by Prof. Sibnath Deb, director of RGNIYD, wherein he emphasised on the importance of having such seminars as it has direct implications on the developments of youth.

On day one, the resource person Phejin Konyak, who is a farmer and author by profession, spoke on “Sustainable rural communities agricultural diversification – Present condition, scope and benefits.” She explained how students and youth in future could take up farming in a profitable way while sustaining the rural communities.

The resource person of the technical session was Chumei Yanlem, district soil conservation officer, Mon, and research scholar at the School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development (SASRD), Medzhiphema Campus, Nagaland University. She spoke on “Entrepreneurship and skill development: A career beyond the government sector.” The resource person stressed on the importance of skill development and cultivating an interest in entrepreneurship for their employability in future.

Resource person of the technical session on day-two was Dr. CH Manwang Konyak from the department of Water Resources and research scholar. He spoke on “Exploring higher studies: Scope and prospects” and shared his ideas on how the students/ youth could explore the avenues in institutions of higher learning after their graduation.

Another resource person of the technical session was L Samuel Konyak, SDO of Chen. He spoke on “Competitive examinations: Strategies and techniques” and shared his experience, knowledge and strategies about the journey on how he cracked the civil service.

The valedictory session was held on February 12 chaired by Dr. Esther P Konyak. The valedictory session was joined by Prof. Vasanthi Rajendra from the Centre for Training, Orientation and Capacity Building, Chennai, RGNIYD.

The two-day seminar was attended by a total of 65 students and 14 faculty.
