Dimapur, Feb. 3 (EMN): Activision announced in a blog post yesterday, Feb. 2, that it has banned over 60,000 accounts from its Call of Duty: Warzone servers for using cheat software.

This latest permaban brings the grand total of banned players in the popular first-person shooter battle royale game to 3,00,000 since the game launched last year.

Apart from stim glitches and invisible skins, Call of Duty: Warzone has also been suffering from major cheating problems on its servers. High-profile streamers and YouTubers like Vikkstar and Team FaZe among others have recently criticised Call of Duty: Warzone for the game’s cheating and hacking problems. The game had been overwhelmingly festered with hackers using third-party aimbot and wallhack software.

In the blog post, Activision wrote, “We have zero tolerance for cheaters across Call of Duty and Call of Duty: Warzone. Our focus is to combat both cheaters and cheat providers. Today we banned 60,000 accounts for confirmed cases of using cheat software in Warzone, bringing our total to date of more than 300,000 permabans worldwide since launch.”

Activision continued, “We are also continuing our efforts to identify and address cheat providers at the source, who distribute unauthorized third party software for modding or hacking. We are committed to delivering a fair and fun experience for all players. This is a dedicated focus for our security, enforcement and technology teams.”

Activision announced a number of dedicated actions like:

  • Weekly backend security updates
  • Improved in-game reporting mechanisms
  • Added 2-factor authentication, which has invalidated over 180,000 suspect accounts
  • Eliminated numerous unauthorized third-party software providers
  • Increased dedicated teams and resources across software development, engineering, data science, legal and monitoring

Activision’s latest response to cheating problems in Call of Duty: Warzone is a welcome development to players frustrated with running into hackers regularly. Apart from the ban, Activision has also promised monthly updates which is a step in the right direction.
