IT surely must be plain old co-incidence. Just a few days after the NSCN (IM) had unleashed a witch hunt against those traders involved in adulteration of commercial commodities, the Dimapur administration and police on Friday followed suit and “raided” 20 medical stores/chemist shops and another 10 hardware shops and godowns.In the exercise of raiding 20 medical stores/chemist shops the district administration and police were aided by officials from Drug Control. At least 20 cartons of “expired” medicines, “of different brands”, were seized during the raid, according to police officials.
There were no seizures of “banned and restricted drugs” made during the raid nor were there any arrest(s), police informed. “They were warned and told to deal ethically.”
Around 12 bags of cement, of nine different brands, were also seized by another raid team, samples of which would be sent to a laboratory to detect illegal mixing. Pieces of “MS Rod”, used in construction purpose, were also collected.
The testing of the seized items would be done according to the guidelines provided by the Bureau of Indian Standard. SDPO Dimapur, Relo Aye said that the results of the lab test would be available in a month.
Some few days back, the law enforcers were left embarrassed and ridiculed, when the NSCN (IM) exposed the rampant practice of adulteration of fuel in Dinapur, and followed it up with more exposures on adulteration of cement. The outfit also released statements to the local newspapers informing of the practice of hardware stores selling inferior “MS Rods” under branded names, after conniving with dealers in Kolkata.
