Kohima, Nov. 18 (EMN): A man was killed and another person severely injured in Thongtso village under Noklak district in the wee hours of Wednesday by some unidentified persons allegedly from a neighbouring village.
Sources from Thongtso village confirmed this to Eastern Mirror.
An official informed that the miscreants attacked the Thongtso villagers at around 4:30 am on Wednesday and shot the victim, who was said to be a father of four children, outside his house before setting the house on fire. The villagers were forced to flee following the sudden attack.
At least eight houses, including a morung, out of about 20 houses in the village were completely burnt down and police recovered some ammunition from the village after the incident, according to the source.
The injured person was said to have been taken to a community health centre at the time of filing this report.
The source informed that Assam Rifles, police personnel and public leaders had reached Thongtso village following the incident that occurred due to a prolonged land dispute dating back to 1960s. It added that authorities and security personnel had to walk for about two hours from Jejeiking to Thongtso village as there is no road connectivity.
