Dimapur, Nov. 18 (EMN): Under the mission ‘Teach for Tobu,’ the Tobu Area Students’ Union (Tasu) inaugurated the Faith Academy at Yeangmai village with its president Sangti Konyak as the special guest.

Yeangmai village under Tobu sub-division in Mon district was recognised in the year 2015. It is located 2 km away from Tamkoang village.

Tasu conceived the idea to start an academy following grievances shared by the village council and mothers’ club members during its educational tour to the village during the month of March, an update from the union assistant general secretary B Kossam Konyak stated on Wednesday.

It stated that the members have stressed on the need for a primary school in the village as majority of the children could not attend the classes regularly at the nearest GPS Tamkoang, which is located more than 2 km away from the village. Tasu officials were told that the numbers of dropout rate was more especially during monsoon season as the parents, who are mostly farmers, could not afford to drop and pick them everyday from school.

“Feeling the immediate needs for the construction of primary school for the community, Tasu president Sangti Konyak with the support from Yeangmai village council funded the construction of the building with three rooms,” the statement read.

It stated that students for LKG and UGK would be enrolled starting from next academic session as a start-up adding that salary for the teachers would be sponsored by Tasu for a period of one year.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Yanghe, VEC chairman, while the welcome address was delivered by Khotu, chairman of Yeangmai village council. A song was presented by KYB band from Tamkoang village.

Tasu team also donated one laptop, which was sponsored by founder of The Naga Blog Yanpuvo Kikon. Besides, Tasu also donated white boards, books, pencils, slates and other material for the academy.
