Job reservation for PwDs ignored in Nagaland; suo motu notice issued to principal director of T&A
Dimapur, Sep. 28 (EMN): The state commissioner for persons with disabilities has issued a suo motu notice to the principal director of Treasuries and Accounts for allegedly failing to comply with the 4% reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities.
A press release from the commissioner, Diethono Nakhro, on Monday stated that the government of Nagaland had, on August 13, 2018, announced 4% reservation of jobs for persons with benchmark disabilities as envisaged under section 34 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
“However, this reservation was not complied with in the recruitment process to fill up five posts of LDA-cum-computer assistant, four posts of accounts assistant and thirty five posts of junior accounts assistant under the establishment of the directorate of Treasuries and Accounts, Nagaland.
“Despite several communications and reminders on the matter by the office of the state commissioner, the recruitment process was carried forward in blatant disregard of the government notification for 4% reservation for which the notice was issued giving them an opportunity to make a course correction within three months,” it read.
In the notice issued on September 25, the commissioner had stated that it was ‘very disheartening to see the nature of how the 4% reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities is being dealt with, and that too by a government servant, which is very unbecoming’.
“The whole basis for which the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016 came into being is to avoid such anomalies and to ensure inclusion and give equal opportunity to all,” she reminded.
Failure to comply with the terms contained in the notice would prompt the commissioner to initiate a suo motu case against the principal director “by initiating civil as well as criminal proceedings” under relevant sections of the law, it warned.
