Illegal liquor seized in Mokokchung, Lahorijan

Mokokchung/ Diphu, Sep. 23 (EMN): In an effort to crackdown on illegal activities, the Mokokchung police have reportedly seized more than 200 bottles of assorted liquors on various occasions.
A police report issued by the superintendent of police, Mokokchung, on September 22 stated that its personnel intercepted a Maruti van on the night of September 18 at New Market and recovered seven cases of MC Rum from the possession of Imkongjungba Ao from Chungtia Village.
It stated that a case has been registered at Mokokchung Police Station -I under section 44 (e) NLTP Act R/W-177 MV act.
On the same night, a combined team of Mokokchung police and 10 NAP (IR) personnel during MVCP in Mokokchung town intercepted a Maruti Car and recovered five cases of MC Rum from the possession of one Odikumzuk (44) from Longkhum village.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of NLTP act and MV Act, the report stated.
On September 19, basing on specific information, the Tuli police personnel waylaid a Maruti Van and seized 176 bottles of MC Rum from the vehicle.
It stated that three occupants namely Bangerimba (22) from Yimchenkimong village residing in Loyung Village, Tuli; Veisakho (23) from Toumai village in Phek district and resident of paper mill, Tzudikong; and Shiluti (35)from Yaongyimsen village and resident of Medical Colony in Tuli; were arrested.
The report further stated that a case has registered under the relevant sections of NLTP act and MV Act.
In yet another incident, Karbi Anglong police had seized 20 cartons of Arunachal-made liquor from a white Maruti Gypsy car in Lahorijan on September 22.
The police told reporters that the liquors were seized as it was not permitted to sell in Assam. The ‘Not for sale in Assam’ was also clearly printed in the bottles.
The driver of the vehicle had confessed that the liquor was purchased from Lahorijan and was to be transported to Dimapur when it was intercepted. T
hough, the person behind the purchase of the liquor has not yet been established but raised suspicion at Ringku Baruah, a powerful liquor businessman of the area.
The gypsy and the seized liquor are being kept under the custody of Khatkhati police station.
