Nagaland: SAMETI conducts training for Atma functionaries
Dimapur, Sep. 18 (EMN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, organised a two-day online training programme on “Promotion of integrated pest management (IPM) in commercial agricultural and horticultural crops” for agri and allied and ATMA functionaries on September 17 and the 18th.
The training was aimed at providing technical knowledge to the extension functionaries on the latest development in the field of IPM and creating awareness on management techniques in agricultural and horticultural crops, an update from SAMETI stated on Friday.
The director of SAMETI and principal in-charge of IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, in her inaugural speech, emphasised on the importance of IPM. As the training would cover important topics which are relevant and applicable to the farmers, she reminded the trainees to do justice to the training programme by delivering what they have learned to the target group.
She encouraged the trainees to play the role of extension agents effectively so as to contribute in improving the farming system in the state.
The resource persons of the training programme were J Akato Chishi, senior technical assistant of Entomology department; Dr. Pankaj Neog, assistant professor of Entomology department; and Dr. Waluniba, assistant professor of Entomology department. The resource persons were from NU, SASRD, Medziphema campus.
The topics covered during the online training included introduction, principles and its different component/ tools of IPM, integrated pest of horticultural crops and its management, use of chemical pesticides in IPM: biological control and modules of IPM in different field crops with reference to Nagaland.
It stated that feedback was received from all the participants and e-certificates were issued to them. Altogether, 22 ATMA functionaries from 11 districts of the state attended the online training programme.
