Excise department seizes contraband items worth INR 1.25 crore
Dimapur, Sep. 12 (EMN): A special team of Kohima Excise arrested two persons along with contraband ganja and suspected heroin worth INR 1.25 crore near hydro project along the National Highway-2 on September 10.
An update from the assistant commissioner of Excise (zonal), S Phyobemo Kikon, stated that a special team of Kohima Excise, on a tip-off, intercepted a suspected truck bearing Registration No. NL-02 L 3168 near hydro project along the NH-2 at around 11:30 pm on Thursday.
He added that on thorough search, the team detected a specially modified chamber on the front and rear side of the vehicle filled with illegal contraband ganja, which was neatly packed in 27 packets weighing 270 kg and 240 soap cases filled with suspected heroin weighing around 2.4 kg.
According to him, the estimated market value of the seized ganja and heroin was approximately INR 1, 25, 40000.
The team arrested two persons identified as Akash Devnath (34) and Jahangir (24), residents of 7th Mile Model Village in Dimapur in this connection. Kikon stated that the accused persons were arrested for violation of NDPS ACT 1985, adding that the case is under active investigation.
