Dimapur, Aug. 19 (EMN): Kiphire district recorded its first Covid-19 case as the RT-PCR test result of a suspected person returned positive on Wednesday, August 19. This was confirmed by the chief medical officer (CMO), Kiphire.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the CMO informed that the positive case is a returnee who was under institutional quarantine.
“There are nine returnees and this one positive case has been put under isolation; the other eight are still under facility quarantine,” informed the CMO.
Kiphire was the only district in Nagaland that had not recorded any Covid-19 cases until now. The lone positive case was first detected through TrueNat on August 17 before being confirmed on RT-PCR.
Further, the CMO informed that despite the detection of a positive case, contact tracing is not necessary as the person, including the eight other returnees, were confined in quarantine centre.
It may be mentioned that the deputy commissioner of Kiphire, Abhinav Shivam, had informed during the District Planning and Development Board meeting on August 18 that a person was tested positive for Covid-19 through TrueNat and RT-PCR test result was awaited. He also asked the public not to panic but to follow the guidelines issued by the government.
