Manipur Covid-19 cases increase to 157

Imphal, June 6 (EMN): The total numbers of persons who have tested positive for Covid-19 have climbed to 157 in Manipur, state health officials informed on Saturday.

“On Friday night 11 persons (two males, nine females) were confirmed Covid-19 positive at the VRDL (Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratory), JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences),” said Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the Health department in a press release on Saturday.

“Today, 11 persons (five females and six males) were discharged from RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) after testing negative for Covid-19.” Most of those who tested on Friday night are Mumbai returnees while those discharged from hospital on Saturday are from Imphal West, Ukhrul, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Noney, and Tamenglong. 

Later, another press release stated, said, “Today till 6:30 pm, 14 males are confirmed as Covid-19 positive new cases at VRDL, JNIMS. All are from Kangpokpi district. They are all returnees from Delhi train. Their health conditions are stable.”

They are being shifted to Covid care facility at JNIMS. The district authority has taken up necessary measures like containment and contact tracing, it said. The total number of positive cases have increased to 157 and the number of active cases to 105, it stated. So far 52 have recovered and discharged.

As on June 5, a total of 14,629 persons were tested for Covid-19 and 132 of them were found positive for Covid-19.  41 have been discharged after recovery, according to a status report of state surveillance officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Program.
