NSF condemns assault on migrant labourers

Dimapur, April 18 (EMN): Dimapur police on Saturday arrested four persons for assaulting some non-Nagas in Vidima village and subsequently circulating the video clip on social media platforms.

According to a police report issued by additional commissioner of police (crime), the arrested persons were identified as Valen Sote, Medovi Kiso, Thejasekho Sirie and Vilakhotuo Vizo. It added that a case in this connection has been registered at Sub Urban Police Station for further investigation.

Police have urged the public to be cautious while posting pictures/videos on various social media platforms, stating that any insensitive activities could have an adverse impact especially on the student community studying outside the state of Nagaland.

It further warned that stringent action would be taken against any such defaulter as per the relevant sections of IPC and Information Technology Act.

Meanwhile, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has strongly condemned the act of certain mischievous elements from within the Naga family who were captured inflicting physical and mental harassment on migrant labourers and daily wage earners and subsequently circulating on social media platforms.

The federation was appalled by the insensitivity of those individuals involved in the ludicrous act, unaware of the ripple effect it could have on the Naga people at large.

“It is truly unfortunate that incidents like these have come to the forefront during this difficult hour of the entire human race coming together and fighting the deadly Covid-19,” the federation’s president Ninoto Awomi and assistant general secretary Siipuni Ng Philo lamented.

“Naga society is one which treats every human being with dignity and provides no space for those who indulges in activities which dehumanises another. More so, the Naga society is not one which promotes discrimination on communal and racial line as the principle of equity and justice has been the basic ethos of our people since time immemorial,” the federation added.

It, therefore, appealed to the Naga public to exercise utmost restraint in their dealings with other follow human beings and not resort to activities that will portray Naga society in bad light in the eyes of the world. It also appealed to the public to be prudent and unwaveringly abide by the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in Mathew 7: 12 ‘So, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.’

NSF further appealed to the authorities concerned to take cognizance of such acts and ensure that strict action is initiated against the perpetrators of such unwanted act.
